I am no video-photographer, but since I was surrounded by allot of these beautiful animals i could not help filming some of them and putting the clips together into a 7 min long compilation video of different species. Recommend you to watch it in full HD.
A dense sea-ice forced our boat quite close to small island/reefs close to Blomstrand Island. There, suddenly we saw a Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) enjoying his recent kill. We then turned off the engine and just drifted by, before we left him alone. He did not seem bothered with us, and kept on eating. All through the day, the beer feasted on the seal.
Yes, again I was so lucky to work at the kittiwake colonies close to Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard (Spitsbergen) and offcourse; I brought my camera. This entry is all about the short legged Svalbard Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus platyrhyncus).
This reindeer is a subspecies of the mainland species Rangifer tarandus and you may only see this on Svalbard, where it appears everywhere the ground is not covered by glaciers. Often enough they come quite close to you.
